Write yourself a page in the diary of an aesthete…

Since the launch of dairyofanaesthete a couple of years ago this family has grown daily. Thousands of people from all corners of the world have connected over the medium of this site and I couldn’t be happier or more inspired by this incredible movement.

Is your unique, personal enterprise in need of a global audience, a full set of quality, professional photos and video, a thoughtful and soulful review finished to a standard only an Aesthete knows how? Diary of an Aesthete is always on the lookout for Unique Accommodation, Nature and Wildlife Safaris, Eco Lodges, NGOs, Artists and Photographers with whom to collaborate.

With over 9000 subscribers, current articles have reached a readership in 164/195 countries worldwide (so far) without the help of paid advertising. Commercial advertising has been kept off this site entirely. I’m only interested in working with people/companies that suit my site, ethics and artistic instincts. I’m not trying to make a dirty fortune or become famous through this site. I want to work on projects that excite and inspire me, highlight important causes, and inform and inspire others after me.

My creative life has been centred around the bespoke, chance happenings and the meeting of like-minds. I adore any opportunity to get creative, to connect or collaborate, to share and inspire. There’s nothing better than a close community, a family business, any sort of collective celebration of life ~ Collaboration.

I have adopted the ideals of ‘Slow Travel’ – therefore prefer to spend more time in each place/take multiple trips to any given country to facilitate more complete and natural submersion into new cultures, thus a more mindful, aware and sustainable travel ethic. I do not support traditional ‘fast’ tourism or tour companies that promote it. I prefer to stay with local people, work with independent businesses, and, where possible, stay on ecotourist sites. I always use public transport when travelling in foreign countries, employ local tourguides and do as much as possible to see any money I spend go into the pockets of local people and families.

I always appreciate hearing from people and will always make effort to reply to every email/comment. Creating this ‘family’ has been a lot of hard work and soul, and I feel we are just getting started here, with whatever this eventually turns out to be. I hope, together, we can continue to shed the light of Truth in this world, make lasting connections, and create a legacy for our future. Please, reader, never hesitate to get in contact, if you feel the urge – whether it is to discuss a project, an idea, or to just share thoughts.

It is a blessing to know you all.

I hope I can continue to create and share beautiful things with the help and collaboration of

  2. Thank you very much for just signing up to follow my blog. I don’t know how you found it or why you decided to follow it, but I am touched and honoured, especially so since looking through your website. You are so gifted artistically (in your writing and photography) and have a refreshing love and view of the world and people and faith which is rare.

I have been given such a wonderful and privileged life with so many opportunities, but am now in my final years – possibly as a long as a quarter of a century left, or possibly only a day! I hope it’s more than a day as there are still things I want to write and do and photograph, and people I want to develop relationships with, experiences to build on and ideas and places to explore, as well as deepen my understanding and experience of God!

I look forward to being in touch with you and following your blog. Thank you for all thata you have shared of yourself and this wonderful world, its people and nature. God’s creation is amazing.

    1. My dear Margaret, so happy to see your subscription and even more so you wonderful humbling comment !
You truly have, it seems, lived a wonderful and beautiful life. I am so so humbled by your reaction to this blog, I honestly don’t quite know how to respond. God is in all places and fills all things, this is what I have found. I don’t profess to know very much, which is why I prefer to share really, but I have learnt that living in love, and thus God, we find the Beloved in all people we encounter. The Spirit of Goodness always moves for Good, and it is moving ever-faster in these chaotic times.

I love you. Thank you so much for shining your star upon my little corner of the web.
God bless you my friend ! Sincerely and truly, God bless you!

      1. Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to me. You must have so many contacts – I don’t know how you manage to keep in touch with everyone. Do you know of Richard Rohr, an American Franciscan Catholic rpiest who has such an open and refreshing view of faith and God? I receive his daily refletions by email. I will copy here his reflection for today (in case you have the time and inclination to read it) as it fits so well with what both you and I seem to think about God and faith.

        “An Unspeakable Name
        Monday,  September 21, 2020

“Remember what God said to Moses: “I AM Who I AM” (Exodus 3:14). God is clearly not tied to a name, nor does God seem to want us to tie Divinity to any one name. Which is why, in Judaism, God’s statement to Moses became God’s unspeakable and unnamable identity. Some would say that the name of God literally cannot be “spoken,” only breathed. [1] Now that was very wise, and sometimes I wish we had kept it up. This tradition alone should tell us to practice profound humility in regard to God, who gives us not a name, but only pure presence—no handle that could allow us to think we “know” who God is or have the divine as our private possession.

“The Christ is always far too much for us, larger than any one era, culture, empire, or religion. Its radical inclusivity is a threat to any power structure and any form of arrogant thinking. Jesus by himself has usually been limited by the evolution of human consciousness in these first two thousand years, and held captive by culture, nationalism, and Western Christianity’s own cultural captivity to a white, bourgeois, and Eurocentric worldview. We have often missed the ways Jesus reveals himself, because “there stood among us one we did not recognize” (John 1:26). He came in mid-tone skin, from the underclass, a male body with a female soul, from an often-hated religion, and living on the very cusp between East and West. No one owns him, and no one ever will.

“Jesus clearly says naming God correctly is not the priority, “Do not believe those who say ‘Lord, Lord’” (Matthew 7:21; Luke 6:46. Italics added). It is those who “do it right” that matter, he says, not those who “say it right.” Yet verbal orthodoxy has been Christianity’s preoccupation, at times even allowing us to burn people at the stake for not “saying it right.” We ended up spreading national cultures under the rubric of Jesus, instead of a universally liberating message under the name of Christ. What I call an incarnational worldview is the profound recognition of the presence of the divine in literally “every thing” and “every one.”

“I would go so far as to say that the proof that you are a mature Christian is that you can see Christ everywhere else. Authentic God experience always expands your seeing and never constricts it. What else would be worthy of God? In God you do not include less and less; you always see and love more and more. And it is from this place that we lose any fear we have about entering into discussion, prayer, and friendship with people of other faith traditions.”

        1. Margaret, I love this so much! What a fantastic piece. Speaks to my heart. Thank you for sharing ! I am myself an Orthodox Christian, which is the faith tradition Jesus has lead me to, one way or another (long and wonderful story), and I have encountered some of the most humble, embracing, simple and loving people, let alone Christians, I have ever met. I have also met the other kind… and I know you know what I mean by that. What this man wrote, and his perspective, really touched me. So thank you!

The only bit I didn’t understand was “a male body with a female soul” – does the author mean to say that Christ had a soft, caring, understanding and forgiving nature, as of a mother perhaps? Or do you think he references something to do with Mother Mary, the Bearer and vessel of the God child?

  3. Welcome! To DailyBiblePrayer.wordpress. May God bless you with encouragement, direction and protection as you grow in your relationship with Him through the scriptures and spending time in prayer!

  4. James hi
You’ve done a absolutely amazing job
You are a special person in your ability to express your worldview and the way you live
I encourage you to share with the whole world your wonderful experiences and journeys around the world
You shed light in the dark, open a window of opportunity to others, fulfill their dreams, and stop fearing and fearing
The message you convey is about not judging other peoples or people without knowing closely that the rumors and the media are mobilized in favor of an intransigent group
Which controls the world when this group is the source of destruction and hatred between nations
95% of the residents of the Artatz ball are peace-loving
Encourage rapprochement between nations to teach respect and love of others is the way to peace, fraternity and peace
There is room and resources for all
I would be happy to cooperate constantly
Do not forget that you have a family, brothers and friends in the Negev
    We’ll talk later
If I wanted any thing, I would not hesitate to help you and ask you

    with love
    Suleiman

    1. I am so very humbled by this comment by you, my friend, Suliman, from the Negev Desert. I am utterly thrilled you like my piece. I look forward to our next meeting… God bless. Jx

  5. James was really part of my family! He spend one month in my guesthouse “Begue Pokai” in Senegal, in the fisherman village of Toubab Dialaw. He was great great great.. hope to meet you somewhere in the world! Laura

    1. Laura, your place is a paradise and I enjoyed every minute of the tranquility, peace and ‘family’ of Begue Pokai. It’s a beautifully unique guesthouse you’ve created that brought me together with so many beautiful travelling souls. See you somewhere out there on the long road… Jxxx

  6. I am so incredibly inspired by your soul, brother. This “diary”, this space, is such a true testament to the beauty that not only the world, but that EACH and every individual on this beautiful planet has to offer. May the Spirits continue to guide you to where you need to be….Many blessings brother….

    1. “…that EACH and every individual on this beautiful planet has to offer” – thank you. It is really my ambition to inspire this idea in people. Thank you, very much. Every blessing to you, Sammie… J XXX

  7. Amen! I’m sorry to read the Great Pretenders have treated you this way, but, you know, we’re still going strong Katelon, and I personally feel my conviction in my beliefs only grows stronger with this criticism. The Peace and the Light (whether you choose to give it capitals or not really makes no difference) is something we have inside. We feel it, we know it so well. It is a part of us. And they can’t take that away from us! Never. And your final words on Jesus recoiling are spot on. Thank you.

  8. Wow. So you’re telling me you can choose who does and doesn’t follow you? That’s incredible. Not even Jesus did that. Thank you for coming onto my site, clearly scanning through briefly without really reading anything and then judging me. I’m sorry that the things I say and do don’t come from your ‘formula’ or out of the King James Bible but that doesn’t make me ‘new age’ or whatever that’s supposed to mean. Yes, I play in all the sandpits, because I want to connect with all the kids in the park, no matter what clothes they wear or the colour of their hair – I talk with them, try to understand them better, perhaps share a little of what I believe, plant a seed, a little light, but generally don’t carry around my King James Bible wherever I go, as it’s too heavy. If I carried it around all the time I’d be stuck back there in that first sandpit, in the shade, with the Pharisees… the light of the sun moved round long ago, yet they refuse to leave their sandpit, walk across the park and meet it. JDC.

    1. Looks like I was right about you sir. I knew this would happen. You have talent for writing and photography– yes, contrariwise to what you claim, I did indeed read some of your material– however grace is not in your caustic reply. I am truly sorry about that. I was prepared to give you a chance, to exhibit the love of God to you by speaking the truth, but like all those reprobate it fell on deaf ears. You obviously don’t want the truth, only your own farce of showing kindness to the world without the true love of God in Jesus Christ. What a tragic situation. Your works will burn in eternal fire if you do not repent and believe in the only Way to Heaven. Don’t bother to follow my site again. I shake the dust from my feet of you.

      1. jamesdee, I think jameswriter is an pseudo-terrorist. Don’t listen to him. I’ve seen your photos, and read a bit of your travels. I think you look beautiful and healthy. In fact, you look like a magical prince from the past, living in the heaven of his next life. Keep enjoying life. It’s your reward!

        1. Thank you, I trust and respect your Wisdom friend. These people are entitled to report their emotions, and I will hence report mine. What frustrates me is when people demonstrate their Ego in the name of another, God or Christ, Allah… giving a bad name to the teacher of Creation… I love your Prince description so much… <3 Ad Infinitum.

      2. These comments disgust me. Yes, while James did not show much grace in his response to you it is apparent that his soil is very deep. He knows that the word is love and it is simple as that. At least that is what I can tell from reading through some of his entries and his “About” which you can find in The Man or The Journey located at the top of his page. I don’t understand what it is with some people that get this God complex and feel that they can condemn people. If you knew anything about what Christ was teaching and in turn what the Father would want you would know that all are forgiven that ask to be forgiven. Think of the parable of the two sons. One left but the Father will always accept his return. But you sit here and cast stones at James as if you were free from sin. Maybe if your initial comment would have been one of openness and encouragement, James response would have been different. You mentioned that you “allowed his follow request” as if he had to somehow prove his worth to you. If you knew anything about God and Christ you would know that all are worthy to be in their presence.

        1. Thank you for your comment. I would never profess to be anything near to a perfect person but it is still nice to see that some can see the making of my soul. Sitting here, now, I feel touched by this… So thank you.

        2. Of course! I know the comment was from awhile ago but it was fresh in my mind and felt I had to express myself. None of us are! Continue to walk in the same light that you have been and good luck on all your current and future journeys. People will try to bring you down along the way but you seem to know the true purpose to life.

        3. The thing for me is righteous anger – I am not angry in defense of myself – I don’t care enough about what a few odd people think of what I do or how I express myself – what angers me, and what is evident in my comment, is people bashing bibles around people’s’ heads and giving every other believer a bad name. It is so so wrong and a perfect example of the kind of hypocrisy that made Jesus rage.

        4. I totally feel you James! I’m not a big fan of Bible thumping either. A lot of people try to impose their beliefs on others and it usually never ends up well. All of the pharisees followed God’s laws to the T but treated people not in their position with judgement and persecution, just as this guy did to you. I would have been angry too and it is people like this that give us a bad name. All we can do is try to walk in the same light as Christ and spread that love to others!

        5. God bless you.

(Just been reading over old comments, and your comments still ‘stick out’ as such beautiful and compassionate words. Our God is great and full of love. I thank you, again, for exhibiting love to me.)

      1. Gosh, this brought me tears and I dunno why.

What if I’m a lost human being searching for her soul— looking for a sense of purpose in her life.

Thoughts are overflowing in my mind, but my heart is full of excitement also.

Prayers for you J, yes, there should me more people like you. Your intentions just so genuine. May God guide every steps you take. Thanks for being such an inspiration to us. ❤

        1. Thank you, Rachell. Remember, always, your soul is your possession, it lives inside of you, and comes with you wherever you go. So how can you be lost? You must realise all the peace, protection, love and answers exist within you. That is the truth about God – He is the energy of life, the very energy that powered your being, and all other beings, into existence. Only seek, truly and simply, and the answers will come…

          God bless you.

  9. very nice. I wish I could just pack up and go. I love your free spirit and your sense of humanity. also that photo of you in the striped robe is GREAT.
